Turmeric & Ginger Wellness Shots

A Golden Ritual for Menopause Support

If you've been feeling like inflammation has quietly moved in and made itself at home, achy joints in the morning, a foggy head by afternoon, energy that dips without warning, you're not imagining it. Shifting hormone levels during perimenopause and menopause can increase inflammation throughout your body, and it often shows up in ways you wouldn't immediately connect to your cycle winding down.

The good news? Small, consistent rituals can make a real difference. And this one takes about five minutes.

These turmeric and ginger wellness shots are packed with ingredients that may help ease inflammation, support your digestion, and give you a bright little energy lift, without the caffeine crash. They're cheaper than the store-bought versions, taste better, and you'll know exactly what's in them.

Why Turmeric and Ginger May Support You During Menopause

Turmeric's active compound, curcumin, is one of the most researched natural anti-inflammatories around. As oestrogen levels decline, your body's ability to manage inflammation and oxidative stress can dip too, which is why so many women notice increased joint stiffness, brain fog, and fatigue during this time. Curcumin may help cool that low-grade inflammation and support your body's natural balance.

Research also suggests curcumin can support mood by helping to balance serotonin and dopamine levels, and some studies have found it may even help reduce the frequency of hot flushes after about four weeks of consistent use.

Ginger, meanwhile, is a powerhouse for digestive comfort. If bloating has become a regular companion, ginger can help ease that discomfort while also supporting circulation and warming you from the inside out.

A note on black pepper

You'll notice this recipe includes a small amount of cracked black pepper, and it's not just for flavour. Your body finds curcumin quite difficult to absorb on its own, but piperine (the active compound in black pepper) can significantly boost its bioavailability. Even a tiny amount makes a difference, so don't skip it.

Turmeric & Ginger Wellness Shots Recipe

Makes approximately 12-14 small shots (60ml each)

What you'll need

  • 2 cups coconut water (or filtered water, coconut water adds electrolytes and minerals, which is a bonus if hot flushes have you sweating more than usual)
  • 2 lemons, peeled and quartered (leave the seeds in)
  • 1 large orange, peeled and quartered (leave the seeds in)
  • 1 piece fresh ginger root, about 10cm, skin on
  • 2 pieces fresh turmeric root, about 5cm each, skin on (or 1 tablespoon ground turmeric if you can't find fresh)
  • ¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper

Optional additions

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, for an extra antioxidant kick and a bit of heat (note: cayenne doesn't contain piperine, so it won't replace the black pepper for absorption purposes)
  • ¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar, great for gut health support
  • A few teaspoons of raw honey or pure maple syrup, if you'd like a touch of sweetness

Equipment

  • A high-powered blender
  • A fine mesh strainer or sieve
  • A large bowl
  • Small 60ml bottles with lids (or a glass jar works perfectly too)

How to Make Your Wellness Shots

1

Blend

Place the quartered lemons and orange into your blender along with the ginger root, turmeric root (skin on is fine for both), black pepper, and coconut water. If you're adding cayenne or apple cider vinegar, pop those in now too. Blend on high until everything is completely smooth, this usually takes about a minute.

2

Strain

Set your fine mesh strainer over a large bowl. Pour the blended mixture through in batches, using a spoon or spatula to gently press and stir the liquid through. You want to collect all that golden liquid and leave the pulp behind.

Don't toss the pulp! You can freeze it in ice cube trays and add it to smoothies or stir it into muffin batter. Nothing wasted.
3

Bottle

Using a small funnel (or a steady hand and a ladle), pour the strained liquid into your small bottles or a glass jar. Seal and refrigerate.

How to Enjoy Them

Take one shot first thing in the morning, or whenever you need a little reset during the day. They're zingy, a little sweet from the citrus, and mildly spicy if you've added cayenne. If the flavour feels intense at first, you'll adjust quickly, most women find they actually start looking forward to that morning zing.

If you're looking for a complete morning ritual, pairing your daily shot with a supplement like our Energy blend can help sustain that lifted feeling throughout the day. The shots give you a bright, immediate boost from whole-food ingredients, while Energy provides longer-lasting support for both mental and physical fatigue. Together with a protein-rich breakfast and a few minutes of movement or stretching, they make a simple morning routine that may help you skip that 3pm slump.

Storage

Keep your shots in the fridge for up to five days, or freeze them in ice cube trays for longer storage. If you're using fresh turmeric root, the shots will have a gorgeous deep golden colour, just be mindful that turmeric stains everything it touches (your blender, your benchtop, your favourite white top).

A Few Things Worth Knowing

These shots are a lovely daily ritual, but it's worth being aware of a few considerations. Turmeric can slow blood clotting, so if you're on blood-thinning medication, have a chat with your doctor first. If you're iron deficient, turmeric may affect how well you absorb iron supplements, so you might like to take them at different times of the day.

And as with any ingredient that supports your wellbeing, consistency matters more than quantity. A small daily shot as part of your broader hormone-balancing nutrition approach is a wonderful place to start. If you're navigating hot flushes, brain fog, or the kind of low-level inflammation this post is all about, you might also like to explore our Foundation blend. It's designed as an all-over brain and body compound that can support hormone health and ease those exact symptoms. Think of it as the nutritional foundation that works alongside rituals like this one.
